The most heavily armoured vehicles today

The most heavily armoured vehicles today are the main battle tanks, which are the spearhead of the ground forces, and are designed to withstand anti-tank missiles, kinetic energy penetrators, NBC threats and in some tanks even steep-trajectory shells.
The Israeli Merkava tanks were designed in a way that each tank component functions as additional back-up armour to protect the crew. Outer armour is modular and enables quick replacement of damaged armour.

US President Barack Obama was once left red-faced after one of his armour-plated Cadillac limousine was brought to a halt as it left the U.S. Embassy in Dublin.
The gigantic armour-plated Cadillac General Motors limousine, with eight-inch thick steel on its door, didn’t even make it as far as the road outside the consulate. The Cadillac armour-plated limousine had to be abandoned after the collision in front of waving crowds en route to his ancestral home in County Offaly.
Mechanics rushed in to rescue the vehicle which was lodged helplessly on the ramp, while onlookers stood and watched – some of whom took video footage and photos.

The Cadillac armour-plated limousine had to be abandoned after the collision in front of waving crowds en route to his ancestral home in County Offaly.

Apart from military use, civilian vehicles may also be armoured, includes the gigantic armour-plated Cadillac General Motors vehicle of Obama. These vehicles include cars used by reporters, officials and others in conflict zones or where violent crime is common, and presidential limousines.
Armoured cars are also routinely used by security firms to carry money or valuables to reduce the risk of highway robbery or the hijacking of the cargo.
Military vehicles are commonly armoured (or armored) to withstand the impact of protecting the personnel inside. Such vehicles include tanks, aircraft, and ships.
